Final Reading Response!!!!

Hi! Hola! Bonjour! Looking back on all the books I’ve read this year, one that has impacted me the most is The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles. It impacted me because it had a good example of how if you keep trying, anything is possible. In the book, it is almost impossible for anyone to make it to Whangdoodleland, because you have to travel by way of your imagination. But eventually, the characters make it. As an example given in the book, people used to think it was impossible to get to the moon, but eventually, mankind made it. I think that example kept them going because it gave them hope. The other reason why it impacted me was because it tells you never to give up. If you give up, you’ll never make it. The reason they made it was because they didn’t give up.

I liked this book because it was very creative. It wasn’t just a plain old book that was average, it had a lot of spark to it!!! While I was reading, I was thinking that it was so interesting that the author was also a movie star. I think that’s why a lot of people have read it, because they had heard of the author. I would recommend this book to other readers because it is one of my favorite books. It’s really well written, and it’s very creative. That’s the end of my final reading response!!!!

The Wax Museum

Hi! Hola! Bonjour! In my school this year, the 5th graders are doing a wax museum. It’s where we each research a character, then dress up and pretend to be that person. I’m supposed to be Martha Washington. We’re studying the Revolutionary War, so we all have to dress up as someone who made an impact on the Revolution. I’ll keep you posted!!!!!!

My New Theme

Hi! Hola! Bonjour! If you have been to my blog before, you have probably noticed that I changed my theme. The puppy on top is adorable, isn’t he? It’s not actually my dog, but he looks exactly like him!!!! By the way, in the picture, there is supposed to be sunscreen under the puppy, but I couldn’t fit that in the picture.

Reading Response for May 24

Hi! Hola! Bonjour! This week, I read Frindle by Andrew Clements. I think that even though the main character is very bright, he is very sneaky. For example, he always distracts the teacher at the end of that class so that he or she can’t give the homework assignment. Another example is that during picture day, he tells every kid to bring a pen and hold it up when the photographer takes the picture. One last example is that he sometimes takes advantage of the teachers, such as in 3rd grade when he turns his classroom into a tropical island. His teacher was a new teacher, so she thought it was very creative when they made paper palm trees, turned up the temperature in the classroom, when the girls wore flowers in their hair, and when the boys wore sunglasses and beach hats.

When I was reading this week, I wondered if the situation in the book (when a kid renames something and the whole world starts to use that word) has ever happened in real life. I think that if somthing like this did happen, Andrew Clements heard about it and that’s why he wrote the story. I don’t think he would just come up with a plot like that, I think he must have heard about this story from somewhere else.

Those are some things I noticed when I was reading this week. For anyone out there who needs a good book, I would definitely recommend this book to you.

Reading Response for May 17!!!

Hi! Hola! Bonjour! This week, I am reading Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson. It’s about the yellow fever epidemic of 1793 in Philadelphia. The main character’s name is Mattie, and everyone, even her Grandfather, is dying.  I’m inferring that the author did a lot of research about the epidemic, because the book has a lot of information about the disease. The book also does a good job describing the strong emotions that everyone had when their loved ones were lost during this tragic time. I also think that the main character is very brave, even though Mattie believes she is weak. If I were her, I would be so overwhelmed because of her position. She’s lost everything- her grandfather, her mother (who isn’t dead, she is just missing)- and yet she still goes into homes of fever victims and cares for them. She bathes them, washes their bloody, filthy sheets, and doesn’t stop to think about how all of her gestures of kindness to sick people could end up killing her. She already survived the fever once. Would she be able to survive it again? She’s so fatigued as it is. Yet these thoughts that I just mentioned never run through her head, because she’s determined to make an impact on these people’s lives, or what is left of them. I think that makes her very brave.

The other book I read this week was When you Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. My teacher is reading this book to my class for a read aloud, but I really wanted to read the book faster because I was enjoying it so much. It’s about a 12-year-old girl named Miranda who is finding mysterious notes that are being left for her, by whom she is unsure. These notes are really disturbing her because they tell her things that are going to happen in the future. The notes say that the person who is writing them is coming to save her friend’s life, as well as his own. That really gets her head spinning. When I finished the book, I was thinking that the author must be very creative because the story has such an interesting plot. I never in a million years could have thought of the things she wrote about.  Also, in the beginning of the book, it’s realistic fiction, but then at the end it turns into science fiction. This caught me off guard because I figured that this book would have the same format as most books, where they stay in one genre.

I hope I have inspired you to read these wonderful books!!!!!!
